Terrapin Internet

INTRODUCTION

What is FTP

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is the founding protocol of the Internet and is a way of transferring files (i.e. copying files) from one computer to another.

An FTP Server is a computer that 'talks FTP' and will allow other computers to log onto it. There are many thousands of FTP Servers across the Internet. Some FTP Servers require a username and password to gain access e.g. your ISP's Server on which your website is held. Many others will allow public access using the 'anonymous' login.

Terrapin FTP

Terrapin FTP allows your computer to connect to a remote FTP Server and 'talk FTP'. This means you can:

1) Upload files to a remote server (e.g. when publishing a website)
2) Download files from a remote server onto your computer (e.g. the latest computer drivers, software programs, MP3 files etc.)

Terrapin FTP uses a standard Windows Explorer like interface which displays the folders and files of both your computer and those on the remote server. Transferring files between your computer and the remote server is simply a case of dragging and dropping the files between the two views.

For each FTP server visited Terrapin FTP will create a Server Site Map which can be viewed off-line. A connection is then only necessary if you want to view a file or folder not previously viewed or you need to transfer files.

Whether you are a Web Publisher or a general FTP user Terrapin FTP has many unique features that make the process of transferring files and website maintenance straight forward and efficient.
